What is Expeditions Everywhere?

We recently had the chance to preview Google Expeditions via the Pioneer Program and it got me thinking about additional ways we may be able to create immersive and engaging ways for students and teachers to visit locations around the world. There are a variety of tools from that make doing this possible via Street View in Google Maps, Google Cultural Institute, Youtube and custom created maps via MyMaps. Taking this one step further is Google Cardboard allowing many of these locations to spring to life via 3D. The goal with Expeditions Everywhere is to:

Allow teachers and students to create their own custom Maps, Tours and location-specific Expeditions

Add locations to a repository of information where other educators and students can experience unique locations from around the world

Use these tours with sample lessons, example work and other first-handed stories of how they have been used in the classroom

Create a community of learners and sharers around these ideas

Using technology to create 3-D tours is something this project will be looking to incorporate in the future.

How can I get involved?

If you are interested in building out resources, suggesting ideas or adding materials to any of the location information, please please let me know! You can reach me on Twitter at @rsaeks.

The initial goal is to create a lesson / collection of resources pertaining to State Capitols since this is a topic covered in every school.
